World Heart Day is celebrated every 29th September and aims to raise public awareness about heart disease or cardiovascular disease. This includes increasing awareness about prevention and the importance of heart health within the community.

The theme for this year's World Heart Day is ‘Use Heart for Action.’ This theme highlights several aspects such as:

  • Individual Responsibility – Urging individuals to take proactive steps in their daily lives to maintain heart health, including making healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Collective Community Efforts – Emphasizing the importance of community engagement and support in inspiring and encouraging those around them to create lasting positive change.
  • Equitable Health Access for All – Calling for action to support equitable access to heart health, empowering communities to push for policies that address health inequalities and ensuring everyone has the same opportunity to lead a healthy life.

Steps individuals can take to better understand their hearts include:

  1. Knowing the features of a healthy heart, such as maintaining normal blood pressure, heart rate, and cholesterol levels. It is also essential to recognize heart attack symptoms, such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or chest pain.
  2. Increasing awareness and knowledge about cardiovascular disease and key preventive measures. This includes adhering to prescribed medications, such as for high blood pressure, cholesterol, or heart-related issues, which are important in reducing the risk of heart attacks and preventing cardiovascular complications.
  3. It is also important to undergo health screenings or check-ups for early detection and treatment to manage and prevent complications from cardiovascular disease.
  4. Adopting a healthy lifestyle, such as exercising consistently, eating a healthy and balanced diet, getting enough rest and quality sleep to reduce stress, and quitting smoking.

Through this run, walkathon, and exhibition, the Ministry of Health hopes to raise awareness about the importance of heart health care for each individual and within the community.

The event also witnessed presentation of appreciation certificates to sponsors and partners including Boeffi, Anta, Dynamic Sports, Geliga, HSN Fitness, Laneige, Prysm, Snap, SP Setia Sdn Bhd and Suci Brand.
