GJPMC organized the World Heart Day Brunei Run

In conjunction with the celebration of World Heart Day 2023 which falls on every 29 September, Gleneagles JPMC with the support from Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health hosted World Heart Day Brunei Run 2023 on Sunday morning, 1 October 2023. The half day event took place at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, Bandar Seri Begawan with over 600 participants flooding the capital.

The guest of honour for the event was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, and the Chairman of Board of Directors of Gleneagles JPMC.

The event also saw the attendance of the Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles JPMC, Dr. Peter Tay and the management of Gleneagles JPMC, officials from Health Promotion Centre and Ministry of Health, along with partners and stakeholders of both parties.

“In July 2023, we relaunched our Cardiac Screening Packages as one of the many first steps that we are taking to promote early detection of cardiovascular diseases. Going forward, Gleneagles JPMC will also see more external campaigns and educational talks around taking care of the heart, the importance of exercise, and also how food choices impact heart health”, said by Dr. Peter Tay, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles JPMC.

After the run flag-off, the guest of honour was guided to tour the health exhibition by Gleneagles JPMC and Health Promotion Centre. Other vendors who also showcased health related services and activities during the event were EVYD, Damentia Brunei, AIDS Council, Panaga Health Clinic, Boeffi and Seaneo Tech.

The running event was divided into three categories – 10km men category, 10km women category and 3km fun run category. Both the 10km run category winners from first to fifth places won cash prizes at $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50 respectively. All participants from the running category also received finishing medal and certificate of participation.

The theme of this year’s World Heart Day is ‘Use Heart, Know Heart’. World Heart Day is a platform to increase awareness and knowledge about heart disease, and taking the chance to recognise the importance of a healthy heart and how can we maintain a healthy heart.

The World Heart Day Brunei Run 2023 event also supports the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) BN on the Move initiative ‘The 20 Billion Steps Together Challenge’.
