Dr Billal Dawood Patel

Dr. Billal Patel, currently the Head of Interventional Cardiology at Gleneagles JPMC, is a distinguished interventional cardiologist with over two decades of service in the National Health Services (NHS) of the UK. Dr. Billal earned his MBChB and Ph.D. from the University of Liverpool (UK), establishing a robust foundation in medical education that is enhanced by his specialized training in cardiology and interventional techniques.

His professional journey includes significant roles such as being the Head of Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospital's Lancashire Cardiac Centre (UK) and holding the title of Director of Coronary Intervention. His experiences in these leadership roles underscore his capacity to manage complex clinical settings, while contributing to advanced cardiac care, particularly in high-risk interventions. Dr Billal's expertise covers a wide array of procedural skills including simple and complex PCI, rotational atherectomy, intracoronary imaging, and ultra-low contrast PCI, particularly noteworthy for conserving kidney function in patients with kidney disease.

Dr. Billal is also instrumental in introducing innovative practices such as intravascular lithotripsy and IVUS co-registration into clinical use, significantly advancing patient care standards in his field. In his career, has also set up the Impella, notably the world's smallest heart pump, and CTO high risk PCI programme in his previous institution.

As he is recognised for his contributions to the academic community, frequently speaking at both national and international conferences, he has maintained a strong research interest, particularly in the role of inflammation in microvascular injury post PCI, contributing valuable insights into the treatment and management of coronary artery diseases.
